The graphite pencil is a superpower for botanical artists. Re-examine its benefits through a series of explorations designed to improve both application and observation skills. Review old concepts with new enthusiasm and a greater understanding of how to use graphite effectively. Exercises focus on simplifying the process to improve the results along with a greater appreciation for this enduring medium.
Learn to observe, and practice core graphite skills. Exercises cover the beginning of a botanical artwork all the way through to finishing, including initial drawings, line techniques, mastering scale, layering and achieving a range of values. Helpful examples and class discussions are encouraged. This course is offered through Otis College of Art and Design, Extension.
