California Natives

This show will feature plants native to Southern California and to celebrate the California Native Plants garden at Descanso Gardens. This 8-acre garden was opened in 1959 and was designed by legendary Theodore Payne.

The show will run from May 2017 to May 2018. Entries will be due no later than March 20, 2017. See the "Call for Entries" page in the "Members Only" section for further details.

Illustrating the Urban Forest: 20 Years of Botanical Art

BAGSC's 20th Anniversary Celebration

This show will be held in conjunction with a celebration of BAGSC's 20th anniversary. The theme of the show will be Mediterranean-climate trees in botanical gardens or arboretum. The trees should be species appropriate for the climate of Southern California. Artists are invited to capture images of these important and beautiful resources.

Ficus, The Fig Family

Ficus, or the Fig family, includes more than 800 species of woody trees, shrubs and vines. Some species have been widely cultivated from ancient times for their edible fruit. These magnificent and majestic trees are also of considerable cultural importance, and are revered as objects of worship, as well as appreciated all over the world for their many practical uses and for their beauty.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses

Everything’s Coming Up Roses made its debut on May 10, timed to be on display for Descanso’s Rose Festival on the weekend of May 14 and 15. BAGSC volunteers demonstrated our art form during the Rose Festival.

The Boddy House is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays and is included with admission to Descanso Gardens.
